Call for Entries

A recent move has landed me on the west coast for a while... so i started another film festival out here. It's focus is on short surf films (under 10 minutes). check out the website for more info:

ps - the First Coast Surf Film Fest will still run as usual in 2010 with the addition of a short film mini-fest.... and i think this blog will become the official blog of the fest!

With editing/shooting on the road has become my new routine, an occasional bike ride to the beach has replaced time spent in the shop... but my notebook is full drawings and plans.

Malibu

This was my first trip to Malibu. It was different than I thought. I'm used to big east coast beaches. Still interesting and fun to see.

Workin'

I've been on the road, without internet, for quite a while now. From the top - The Dead at the LA Forum - riding in a chopper over Lake Tahoe - getting the shot in Emerald Bay.

Flight to California

I shot alot of video on this trip - all of which is awaiting my arrival home... that and a house i have to paint. These shots were snapped over the southwest.

Sargasso meet Dune Grass

I talked with the Dept. Director of Park and Rec., here in AB, about the deposition of Sargasso on living dune grass (bottom photo). Surprisingly, he agreed this was probably not a good idea. After a good talk I was quite relieved to find he was a coastal engineer, passionate about maintaining a healthy beach. Huzzah, Deputy Director!

CALL FOR ENTRIES

4th Annual First Coast Surf Film Festival

This is a FREE festival that takes place in St. Augustine Beach, Jacksonville/Neptune/Atlantic Beach and Fernandina Beach - Florida.

FREE means that there are no submission fees for filmmakers and no admission fees for audiences.

The festival will be held April 8th - 11th, 2009

Submission deadline is March 15th, 2009

The focus of this festival is on short films, animations and industry videos (commercials/webisodes/podcast/youtube/vimeo) basically any video work done for the surf industry or with surf culture in mind. Pro or amateur.

The weather here in Florida has been epic. Great waves and warm temps. This made me think of our brothers in the MidWest. I poached these photos from Ryan Gerard's Third Coast Surf Shop.

Sunny and 75, Water Temp was 63, no need for a wetsuit but since it was Mid-December everyone out was wearing a suit... except me, and i thought it was hot.
