Innovator Extroidanaire, Roy Stewart, posted some new photos of an SUP redeck over at the Tree to Sea forum. I love those full 50/50 rails and the first photo is a trip. Roy's website is at www.olosurfer.com
These are freeze frames from my upcoming film Centro Travels. In 1975 a small group of surfers dropped out of the mainstream and dropped in to the Central American line up. Centro Travels is their story.
This is unofficial APC Team Rider, Dances With Wolves. Hailing from the Cape Cod side of Israel, DWW digs Jellyfish and Poetry Readings. His strongest maneuver is text messaging (throwing chunks) and his Grandma is המוסד למודיעין ולתפקידים מיוחדים. Dig it. Ben Ribnick, this Bud's for you.
Quoting "Doc" Paskowitz... "Why do you have the camera's on us... there are a lot of intelligent people out there doing good things... we're just a dumb mexican, a stupid jew and a bunch of ignoramous's". Well, I paraphrased a little but it was a well made film that spoke more to how we look at ourselves and define our family's than to some abstract ideal of surfing. I dug it to the max. Catch it if you can. Surfwise.
Woody Brown, there is a lot of history to this man, he was an early great in big wave riding and the inventor of the modern catamaran. More info here. But I just love this photo because of the board he is sitting on. Flat sides/no rail. Ride a ten footer on a board like that - awesome.
The top two photos are my favorites taken by Ryan Hammers during the production of Drawing Lines. The bottom photo is of Ryan Hammers, walking back to the van, after an argument that pitted "titties" versus "titties in your mouth" as the utmost expression of joy. I think Ryan is crying a little in the photo, too much talk of "titties" can make a man emotional.
The Duke and Kuhio Beach courtesy of Honolulu.gov and and my own Atlantic Beach, courtesy of the 10cam. I think I am going to move to Waikiki on a make believe internship. Somewhat like the one offered to me by a dentist and his wife. They said I could live with them and be an intern for the Washington DC region. So, I figure, why not transfer said internship to Waikiki and become a citizen of note. Sounds like a plan, Stan. (ps- I blog because sometimes people get bored at work... that's when i go to the beach).
Matanzas, St. John's and Ft. George Inlets, respectively. Drove across the first today, live near the second and like going to the third... um yeah, i am babysitting dogs today. Photos courtesy of SKYPIC.com
The greatest fried shrimp in the world, occurs in a classic St. Augustine Beach restaurant named for the family that runs it. I will put that title on the line, any day of the week (except for Sundays and Mondays, because they are closed). They have been serving up the same exact dish for over ten billion years (read as 30 years). And in online world of surf report photographs we credit the above picture to the The Surf Station.
This is a post from the future. If you could fast forward the memory card on your camera to April 22nd, 2008 (aka:EARTH DAY), this is what the world would look like (if you were out in the water). I am glad the earth will still be here on Tuesday, because it is Thursday and Tuesday is Future Earth Day. Plan your weekend accordingly, come Tuesday, the earth will still be here.
The winds continued as the day grew long. But what really has my sails full is this source for affordable bamboo, bac bac and seagrass matting. I found this on the Tree To Sea forum as a link to the Compsand guys resource. Capiche? Shudduppahya face.
Yesterday was flat, today is not. The dental ding doc is being christened "Ponce", in honor of the discoverer of North America, Juan Ponce de Leon. Update: My weather forecasting skills are rusty. It's a few hours after dark and the winds have died. The only thing I can say for sure is that the sun will come up tomorrow.
The Blog is back with the official poster for the First Coast Surf Film Fest. Due to the tightening of the Bible Belt, no venues were available in the Jax Beach area... apparently "we don't show that type of movie" was the qualifying excuse. So lookout St. Augustine Beach and Fernandina Beach, you may be marked as ultra liberal for showing Surf Movies.
